Nowadays, the rise in living standard makes it likely for people to own a great variety of household appliances. Though it is an exciting fact apparently, the pros are accompanied with cons.

The benefits of the development are obvious. First of all, the development intensifies the positive attitude of consumers toward life. Doubtlessly, modern society is known as being with fast-paced life. The stressful life usually creates some negative emotions. But the comfortableness and convenience brought by the use of all kind of domestic appliances are much likely to ease the stress and release the negativity. Secondly, the increasing demand for consumer durables motivates the industry to improve. To fulfill various demands, the scale of this industry would expand. The quality and variety are both elevated. Various household appliances are managed to add, ranging from traditional ones such as washing machines and electrical tin openers to stylish devices such as flat-screen television and sweeping robots, into our life.

However, just as every advantage has its disadvantage, the negative effects of the development should not be ignored. Firstly, consumerism is much likely to give rise to materialism. When people are encouraged to acquire goods in amounts, it may eventually end up with a way to display status. The luxury and the advancement might capture people’s attention. And one follow-up problem is that the manufacturers might pay too much effort to the up-grading of the products. The goods with simply functionality will be out of the shelves. Needless to say, if the fact happens, it should be acknowledged as a contradiction to the original purpose of having more household goods

From what has bee discussed above, it can be found that the development is mainly a positive one. But both consumers and manufacturers should be allowed to realize that the usefulness of household goods is merely to provide services for people who are in need of them.
